Obituary

Donald R. Miller, 93, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2014. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Henry and Florence Miller.

Don, a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, attended local schools and graduated from the former LaSalle Senior High School. In January 1943 he married Betty J. (Hewell) Miller. He was employed as an electrician at DuPont Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls, NY and retired after forty one years of service. Don was a longtime member of the Sweeney Hose Volunteer Fire Department in North Tonawanda and member and past president of the LaSalle Sportsman Club in the Town of Niagara. He had a passion for the outdoors and especially liked hunting, fishing, farming and gardening. Don was also a sports enthusiast. During his high school years, he was a star athlete excelling in football and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Buffalo for his achievements. He later played baseball in the local Industrial League. Don also loved to play euchre with his friends and family.

In addition to his wife of seventy one years, Don is survived by three children, Linda (Evan) Williams, II of Troy, PA; John (Kathleen) Miller of Niagara Falls, NY and Terry (Gavin) Atkinson of The Woodlands, TX; six grandchildren. Wendy (Jay) Sbrollini, Evan (Tricia) Williams III, John (Amy) Miller II, Megan (Ty) Weis, Erin (Timothy) Gelhar and Gavin Atkinson, Jr.; thirteen great-grandchildren, two brothers, Marvin (late May) Miller of Florida and Gordon (Barbara) Miller of Texas as well as several nieces and nephews. Don was also predeceased by two brothers, James (late Ruby) Miller and Howard (late Kathleen) Miller.

Visitation will be on Monday from 3 – 7 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 3rd at 10 a.m. with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Cambria, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221 or to a charity of one's choice.
