Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" G. Byham, 94, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Thursday October 4, 2012 at her residence under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Grove City, PA she was the daughter of the late David and Tina (Small) Shaw.

Dorothy attended school in Pennsylvania and graduated from Meadville High School. In June of 1937 she married Wayne C. Byham in Pennsylvania, whose work as an ordained minister with the Methodist church brought them to Niagara Falls where they lived until relocating to California in 1983. Mr. Byham predeceased her in 1988 and in 2007 she returned to Niagara Falls where she lived until the present time. While living in Pennsylvania, she was employed as a stock manager at J.C. Penney's in Meadville, PA. Dot was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church in Niagara Falls and at one time her husband served as the congregation's minister. She enjoyed calligraphy and was a gifted seamstress. Dorothy also loved to read.

Mrs. Byham is survived by one daughter Patricia (late John) Berds of Niagara Falls, NY and was predeceased by two sons Scott Byham and David Byham. Survivors also include four grandchildren Michael (Dawn) Byham, Wendy (Kirk) Orr, Lisa Mesler and Vicki Mesler, six great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, one brother Carl Shaw of Agoura, CA and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by one grandson David Byham and three brothers William Shaw, Howard Shaw and Ralph Shaw.

There will be no prior visitation. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Meadville, PA at the convenience of the family and a memorial service will be held at St. James United Methodist Church in Niagara Falls, NY at a later date to be announced.
