Douglas L.

November 18, 2022
Douglas L. Thomas, a lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Douglas graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School in 1961. He was the owner of Warehouse Services Group, Inc. A shipping and warehousing family business that he spent the last 20 years of his life working to establish for the stability of his family. Prior to that Doug worked for Gra-Mic Warehousing and many other historic Niagara Falls, NY businesses. He was a salesman for Try-It North and Gorge Beer Distributors, Loblaw's on Military Rd., Levy Brother's on Pine Avenue, and Krausman's on Main Street. He also owned his own carpeting business, Colonial Carpets for 20 years. Doug was a Life Member of Lewiston #2 Fire Company, where he proudly volunteered 50 years of service as a fire fighter, Asst. Chief, President, EMT, Poker Player and Viking Raider. He used his medical knowledge to also volunteer his time as the First-Aid Officer at Niagara BMX on Hasley Dr, where his boys & nephews raced BMX bicycles from 1977-1980.
Doug was happiest spending time at home with his wife and visiting family. He was a devoted husband and father that raised his children to understand the importance of family loyalty. This is a loyalty and love that his 4 boys returned to their father until his final moments and continue to carry for their mother today. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, cold beer and a pipe full of tobacco. During the summer you could see Doug with a smile on his face while cruising around in his Chrysler Crossfire, with the top down and his wife by his side.
Doug is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth (Miller) Thomas; his children, Douglas & Theresa (Gatto) Thomas, Mark & Linda (Murray) Thomas, Scott & Danielle (Falbo) Thomas, and Casey Thomas; his grandchildren, Jacob Thomas, Joshua & Caitlyn (Swanson) Thomas, Erin Thomas, Emily Thomas, Benjamin Thomas, and Cameron Thomas; his great grandchildren, Wesley and Wiley Thomas; many nieces and nephews, whom he loved and cared for deeply. He was predeceased by his parents William and Warnera (Scheurich) Thomas of Niagara Falls, NY. And his older brother, Donald Thomas of Lewiston, NY.
It was Doug's wishes that he be cremated and that no sad services were to be held for him. As per these wishes, the Thomas family will host a celebration of life for Doug on his birthday this summer. Memorial offerings may be made to Lewiston #2 Fire Company or St. Jude Children's Hospital. Arrangements by M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel.
