Dr. Robert E. Woods, MD, 83, of Youngstown, NY, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Astoria, NY, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Leona (Kondak) Woods.
Raised in Roslyn, NY on Long Island, Robert graduated from Chaminade High School before earning his Bachelor’s degree from Holy Cross College and Doctorate of Medicine from Upstate Medical Center. With a deep sense of duty, he entered the United States Navy upon completing his medical degree, serving honorably as a physician at Camp Lejeune.
In 1976, Dr. Woods and his family settled in Youngstown, NY, a community that would become the heart of his life for the next five decades. He dedicated over 40 years to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center as a Radiologist.
Outside of medicine, Robert lived with joyful intensity. He was an excellent racquetball player, playing daily at the former YMCA in Niagara Falls and in tournaments throughout Western New York. He was an avid fisherman, a spirited auction-goer always hunting for a good deal, and a proud supporter of Notre Dame football. Above all, his life was centered around his family, who will miss him dearly.
Dr. Woods is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Brown) Miranda-Woods, whom he married on November 26, 2011, in Lewiston, NY. He is also survived by his children Robert E. (Jennifer) Woods, Dr. Jennifer (Dr. John) Maguire, Andrea (Jim) Pinti and Christopher (Elena) Woods; his stepchildren Elizabeth (Charlie) Smith and Jonathan (Elizabeth) Miranda; fourteen grandchildren Maggie, Abbie, Casey, Robert, Sarah, Sydney, McKenna, Molly, Walker, Cooper, Aurora, Evelyn, Julia, and Sylvia; his sister Maryanne (John) Papa; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Anne Woods, who passed away in 2005.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 11, from 11 – 1 PM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM. Military honors and entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorial offerings may be made to the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Company, 625 3rd Street, Youngstown, NY 14174.
