Elaine L. (Wackett) Zimmerman, 72, of the Town of Niagara, NY passed away on Thursday December 3, 2009 at her residence while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Richard and Julia (Harris) Wackett.
Elaine was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and attended local schools. In 1952, she married Harold A. "Zimmy" Zimmerman Jr. in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Zimmerman predeceased her on January 25, 2009. Elaine was employed at the Globar Division of the Carborundum Co. in Niagara Falls, for thirty eight years, where she had served as a union steward and officer for their credit union. Following her retirement from Carborundum, she worked as a sales associate at the Bon Ton Department Store in Niagara Falls. Elaine was also a volunteer worker for the Niagara County Board of Elections, and in her leisure time enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening and crocheting. Above all, Elaine took great pleasure in spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Zimmerman is survived by her three children, Keith H. Zimmerman, Darla E. (Kenneth) McCormick and Judy L. Hertel all of Niagara Falls, NY, and was predeceased by one daughter Melody (Mike of Burlington, Ontario, Canada) Salfi. Survivors also include ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one sister Darla (late William) Wendt of Sanborn, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by one brother Edward (Lori of Arizona) Wackett.
Friends may call on Saturday from 6 – 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Monday December 7th at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Denitto officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston NY. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst NY 14228-1198.
