Elisa Alice De Simone died peacefully on January 29, 2013. Born in Oakfield, NY, she was the beloved daughter of the late Raniere and Emilia (Nanni) De Simone and dear stepdaughter of the late Luigina De Simone. As a young child, she lived in Italy for two years following her mother's death. There she learned to speak, read, and write fluent Italian and was in training to become a tailor.
Upon returning to the US, her family settled in Niagara Falls and she attended local schools. On January 31, 1942 she married Anthony De Simone. They were married 51 years before his death in September 1993.
Mrs. De Simone worked at the Spirella Co. in the 1940s and the Carborundum Company in the 1950s and 60s. She also held a variety of part-time jobs including retail stores and bakery shops. Her last job was working as a cafeteria assistant for the NF public school system.
Devoted to her family, Mrs. De Simone loved to cook and bake for them. She was especially known for her variety of Christmas cookies and homemade pizza. She loved to dance and listen to music. Among her all-time favorites were Gene Autry and Dean Martin. Mrs. De Simone was a devout member of Prince of Peace Church and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a life time member of the Christoforo Columbus Society and was a former member of the Century Club. Her faith was very important to her and she use to say 13 rosaries a day. During the last years of her life, she was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Lisa.
Mrs. De Simone was the cherished mother of Ann (Lorenzo) Brown of Raleigh, NC; Lisa De Simone of the city; Anthony (Jacqueline) De Simone, Jr. of the city, and Raymond (Lucy) De Simone of Monroe, MI; adored grandmother of Anthony C. (Kimberly) De Simone of Amherst; Maria (Shawn) Grapes of Wheatfield; and Christina, Raymond, and Nicolette De Simone of Michigan; and beloved great-grandmother to Evelyn, Alexander, and Adrianna Grapes and Anthony E. and Julian De Simone. She was the sister of Mary (late Nello) Capone, Hugo (late Laurie) De Simone, Emilio (Carmella) De Simone, Josephine (late Sam) Capone, and Elvera Cappellano. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, David (Ida) De Simone and an infant sister, Emilia DeSimone. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
