Obituary

Dr. Elizabeth (Betty) Falsetti DiChiara, 93, entered into eternal rest on May 21, 2022 with family by her side at The Friendly Home in Rochester, NY.  A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, born on December 20, 1928, she is the daughter of the late Gaetano and Rachel (Bosso) Falsetti.

Elizabeth is a 1946 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and a 1950 graduate of Niagara University's first graduating class of the School of Nursing.  In addition to two master's degrees in Nursing/Education, she earned her Ph. D from the University of Buffalo in 1988.  She launched her nursing career as a Registered Nurse at the original Mount St. Mary's Hospital, then on to positions as a Niagara Falls Public School Nurse-Teacher, a Certified Nurse Practitioner, a Nursing Instructor at Niagara County Community College and eventually a Professor of Nursing at Niagara University where she served as Department Chair and ultimately retired  as a Full Professor of Nursing in 1993.

Committed to her hometown of Niagara Falls, NY, Elizabeth served as president of the Main Street Business Association, boosting small business owners and was the driving force behind several beautification projects.  She looked forward to playing bocce at the annual Italian Festival on Pine Avenue.  Elizabeth was an active member of the St. Francis Guild for many years and was passionately devoted to Niagara University and its Vincentian philosophy to be of service to others.

Elizabeth wed Anthony J. DiChiara on June 23, 1951, who predeceased her on June 22, 2013 just one day shy of their 62 nd anniversary.  Together, they raised six children.  Surviving are their loving children Elizabeth Murphy of Miami, FL, Patricia (Stephen) Carter of Ocean View, DE, Anthony J. (Cathy) DiChiara, Jr. of Port St. Lucie, FL and Sarah (Anthony Leone) DiChiara of Webster, NY.  Elizabeth was also predeceased by sons Dr. Joseph A. DiChiara (2013) and David A. DiChiara (1988).

Elizabeth was dearly loved and admired by her nine grandchildren:  Melissa Murphy, Caitlin Murphy (Kurt) Gardner, Candace DiChiara, Dr. Andrew (Dr. Rachel) Carter, Sgt. Patrick Carter, Rachel Carter, Anthony Leone, Jr., Michael Leone, Nicholas Leone and four precious great-grandchildren:  Kacey and Cora Gardner,  and Avery and Declan Carter.

She leaves her beloved brother, Dr. Domonic (Margaret) Falsetti of Lewiston, NY and is predeceased by her siblings:  Joseph (Elma) Falsetti, Rose (Arthur) Gallo, Marie (Robert) Alexander, Edward (Barbara) Falsetti and Dr. Herman (Jan) Falsetti.  She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and their families, childhood friends, as well as her DeVeaux neighbors, especially those on College Avenue where Elizabeth lived for nearly 60 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Niagara University's Alumni Chapel, 5795 Lewiston Road, 6 Vincentian Drive, Niagara University, NY, on Saturday, June 11 at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.  The family will receive extended family and friends beginning at 9:00 AM at the Chapel.  Memorial contributions in memory of Elizabeth J. DiChiara '50 may be made to the DiChiara Family Scholarship, Niagara University, NY 14109 or to a charity of your choice.
