Obituary
Ellen C. (Buscemi) Montana, 99, passed away on Friday June 1, 2012 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Florence, PA she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Maria (Morreale) Buscemi.
During the 1940's Ellen worked at Bell Aerospace in Wheatfield and later at the Carborundum Company in Niagara Falls, NY. She later worked at her family owned business, Buscemi Liquor Store, in Niagara Falls, NY during the 1940's and 1950's. On April 28, 1953 she married Samuel L. Montana at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Following their marriage, she and her husband moved to California where they managed the Venetian Gardens in Altadena, CA from 1954 until moving back to the Niagara Falls area in 1968. Mr. Montana predeceased her on January 15, 1972. Ellen was a member of the I.S.D.A. (Italian Sons and Daughters of America) Volare Lodge, St. Joseph Church as well as their Ladies of Charity Society both in Niagara Falls, NY. She also served as a volunteer at N.F. Memorial Medical Center and later at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston until the late 1990's. Ellen enjoyed opera music, playing pinochle and needle painting. She also liked sewing, crocheting and embroidering.
Mrs. Montana is survived by her stepson Andrew S. Montana of San Diego, CA. She was predeceased by her siblings Marianna (late Anthony) Dimino, Joseph (late Della) Buscemi, Charles (late Rose) Buscemi, Angelo (late Doris) Buscemi, Richard (late Marion) Buscemi, and Paul Buscemi. She is also survived by several cousins, her dear friend Roslyn Cancemi and will be especially missed by her many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday June 4th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations to a charity of one's choice may be made in Ellen's memory.
