Ellwood William Hagen, 87, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2009, in Phoenix, Arizona. Ellwood was born in Buffalo, NY, on February 22, 1922, to William and Lydia Werth Hagen. He grew up in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, and moved to Niagara Falls, NY, after marrying Carmella (Carme) Hagen, his wife of 52 years.
Ellwood served in the U. S. Army in World War II earning a Purple Heart for wounds received in action at Luzon, Philippine Islands. He later worked for nineteen years in a civil service position with the U. S. Army. He traveled extensively to Army Units in the USA, Germany, Greece, Italy, Vietnam, and the Netherlands. In 1984, he retired with Carme to Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sister Isabelle (Hagen) Rumo, her husband Les and their daughter Lisa Gravel (Mark), and an Aunt Claribel Ackerman.
He is survived by an uncle Robert Schuster (Holly) of the Town of Wheatfield, NY, a brother-in-law Carmen Luna and sister-in-law Ann LeBay, both of Niagara Falls, a sister-in-law Kathleen Luna of San Diego, CA., and numerous cousins, nephews, great nephews, nieces and great nieces, including Gloria and Gioia Bagnole of Phoenix, AZ, and Maria Gotschall (Walter) of Peoria, AZ.
Friends may call on Friday from 7-9pm at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON FUNERAL CHAPEL 468 19TH STREET, NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. where funeral services will be held Saturday May 30th at 10:00am. with Rev. Stewart Lindsay O.S.F.S officiating. Burial will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
