Elvira "Vee" M. (Geracitano) Carella, 97 of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on August 18, 2018 at Elderwood at Cheektowaga Nursing Care Facility. Born October 8, 1920 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Marianne (Mittica) Geracitano.
Elvira attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1938. On June 20, 1942, she married Thomas Joseph Carella at St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls. Mr. Carella predeceased her on June 18, 1967. During World War II, Vee worked in the Administration Building at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. After returning to Niagara Falls, she also worked as a sales clerk at W.T. Grants Department Store, and the Dixie Hat Shop, as well as an office secretary for Doctors, Wendell and Elsie Bizzozero, and the Niagara Falls Y.M.C.A. Vee was actively involved in numerous local organizations which included serving as past president of the 24 th Street School Parent Teachers Association, the Girls International Institute, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Century Club and the Niagara Singles Association. She was also past president and organizer of the Mt. Carmel Senior Citizens Organization, first president and organizer of the Carmelite Seniors, past president of the Mt. Carmel Church Altar and Rosary Society, past secretary of the first Mt. Carmel Church Parish Council, past secretary of the John Duke Senior Citizen Center Council and organizer and chairwoman of eight Eastside Reunions. In 1996, the Council on Aging awarded Vee Certificates of Merit and Appreciation as Senior Citizen of the Year. In her leisure time she enjoyed baking, playing cards and going to the casino.
Elvira is survived by her children, Thomas (Sandra) Carella, Linda (John Fischer) Carella, Janelle (Frank) Davino and Gary (Francine) Carella, three grandchildren, Thomas (Julie) Carella, Christopher (Michelle) Carella and Michelle Carella, three great-children, Morgan Carella, Aidan Carella and Brynn Carella, one sister Rose (late Benjamin) Critelli and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by three brothers and three sisters, Lawrence (late Anne) Geracitano, Tresa (late Joseph) Costa, Dominic (late Barbara) Geracitano, Catherine 'Kay' Geracitano, Mary (late Joseph) Riggi and Frank Geracitano, Jr.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3 – 8 P.M. At M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL. 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Friday August 24th at 9:15 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Family Parish at Mt. Carmel Church 27 th Street and Independence Ave. Niagara Falls, NY. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Please visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
