Elwood L. 'Woody' Channell, 98, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on July 10, 2019 at Our Lady of Peace Health Care Facility in Lewiston, NY.   Elwood was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

In 1942, Elwood married Mamie P. (Archie) Channell.  Mrs. Channell predeceased him on May 1, 2011 after 69 years of marriage.  Elwood served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II.  From 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945, he served in the Bismarck Archipelago, Luzon, Philippines and Guadalcanal.  For his service, he received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star.  Woody was employed for 37 years at E.I. DuPont in Niagara Falls, NY.

Elwood is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Paul) Brynski, his chosen daughter Marcia (Dennis) Lewis; his grandchildren, Scott Brynski and Jeffrey (Francesca) Brynski; great-grandchildren, Jonathan (Heather) Wolf, Maria Brynski, and David Brynski; 4 great-great grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Catherine (Thomas) Kranking, Patricia (late Arthur) Eberhardt, Fern (late Milton) Mueller, and Karen (late Richard) Heffler, as well as several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, Elwood was predeceased by his brother Charles (Norma) Channell.

Elwood's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of 3 East at Our Lady of Peace Health Care Facility for the compassionate care and comfort given to Elwood.
