Obituary

Ernest D. “Ernie” Sauvé, 76, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on June 6, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, he was the son of the late Ernest and Juliette (Renaud) Sauvé.

Ernie graduated from high school in Niagara Falls, Ontario. On June 13, 1970, he married his beloved wife, Joanne A. (Yacus) Sauvé, at Mt. Carmel Church in Niagara Falls, NY.

He was employed as an Industrial Electrician with Union Carbide in Welland, Ontario, and later with General Motors in Lockport, NY, where he worked for many years.

Ernie enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, fishing in the Southern Tier with his granddaughter, watching wrestling and caring for his family. He had a keen interest in the financial markets and was known for his determination, strong work ethic, and deep pride in his family and their accomplishments.

In addition to his wife of nearly 56 years, Ernie is survived by his daughter, Laura Sauvé, and granddaughter, Brianna Sauvé; his siblings, Madeline, Moe, Vivien, Sam, Justin, and Denise; his brother‑in‑law, Walter “Butch” (Patty) Yacus, and sister‑in‑law, Patricia (J.D.) Prophitt; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Roger.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, from 4 – 6 PM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice (niagarahospice.org) or the American Cancer Society (American Cancer Society).
