Eugene A. "Gene" Greene, 79, a lifelong resident of the Tuscarora Nation, passed away Saturday February 26, 2011 at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, NY. He was the son of the late George and Inez (Doctor) Greene.

Gene attended local schools and was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School in Niagara Falls, NY. During the Korean War served in the United States Army from January 25, 1952 until his honorable discharge on December 22, 1954. On March 3, 1956 he married Elva R. (Jacobs) Greene in the Old Tuscarora Baptist Church. Gene was a member of Roofers Local #74 and worked for over 33 years for West Roofing in Niagara Falls, NY. Gene was proud to be a Quinte Mohawk of the Bear Clan. He was an active member of the Pow Wow Circuit where he was well known and liked across the East Coast and in Canada for his native craftsmanship in making moccasins, leatherworks, rattles, and as a silversmith. Gene was also a member of Totally Independent Truckers (TITS), Tuscarora Bowling League, and Eh-Qua-He-Wah Gun Club. Gene loved cats and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and four wheeling. Most importantly, Gene's foundation and focus in life was the care and well being of his family.

In addition to his wife of fifty-five years Gene is survived by three children Eugene "Tweedy" (Sue) Greene of Lewiston, NY, Evelyn "Effie" (Manny Yellow) Asay of Niagara Falls, NY and Elwyn "George" (Anita) Greene of Lewiston, NY; six grandchildren Brian (Courtney) Greene, Sarah (Craig Budney) Greene, Rae'Chell (Ignatius DeFranco) Greene, Hunter Greene, Austin Asay, and Taylor "TJ" Asay; seven great-grandchildren Jessiah, Aiyana, Kaya, Razzberry, Romeo, Bella, and Savino; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings Ruby (late Alfred) Bissell, Goldie (late Harold) Bissell, Emerald (late Oliver) Antone, Loren (Elizabeth of Niagara Falls, NY) Greene, George (Ann of Fulton, NY) Green, Tom Greene, Richard Greene and Jike Greene.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday March 2nd at the Tuscarora Indian Mission, Walmore Road, Tuscarora Reservation at 1:00p.m,with Rev. Donald Robinson and Rev. Walter Printup officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment with Military Honors in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Tuscarora Reservation.
