Two weeks before his 100th birthday, Eugene Racine, 99 years old, of Wheatfield, NY passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Crestwood Nursing Home following a short illness. Born in St. Eugene, Quebec, Canada on February 25, 1915, he was the son of the late Xaviar and Roseanna (Gagne) Racine.

Eugene married Lucie (Lepage) Racine in Bearn, Quebec on September 15, 1936, who predeceased him in 2007. In 1953 he brought his family to Niagara Falls, NY and became a United States citizen in 1954, and proudly exercised his right to vote up until the age of 98. He was employed as a meat cutter at the former Loblaws Grocery Store for 20 years.

As a young man Eugene played the fiddle. His hobbies were gardening and watching wrestling.

Mr. Racine is survived by six children: Pierrette Racine of Niagara Falls, NY; Sylvan (Dianne) Racine of McClellanville, SC; Sylvia (Joseph) DiPietro, Mary-Claire Racine both of Niagara Falls, NY; Mary Paule (Chris) Smith of Stevensville, Ont., Canada and Michelle (Jeff) Dosser of Niagara Falls, NY and was predeceased by two sons Roger (Claudia) Racine and Richard G. Racine. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, his dear companion Anna Bolea, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his twelve siblings.

Eugene's family wishes to thank the sixth floor staff of Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Crestwood Rehab Facility and Dr. Danuta Derkatz and her wonderful staff for their compassion and care.
There will be no prior visitation. Private funeral services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, PO Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240.
