Evelyn (Fernandez) DiRienzo, 89, of Youngstown, NY died on Friday May 29, 2009 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Depew, IL she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Avelina (Alonso) Fernandez and step daughter of the late Nick Perez.
Evelyn came to Niagara Falls as a child with her family where she lived most of her life until moving to Lewiston and recently Youngstown, NY. She attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1938. On April 17, 1951 Evelyn married Anthony DiRienzo at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. DiRienzo predeceased her on December 28, 1989. Prior to her marriage she worked at the Carborundum Company and during the 1960's and 1970's she was employed as a cook at the former Jay-Lu Restaurant. In her leisure time, Evelyn enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling and completing crossword puzzles. She especially liked spending time with her nieces and socializing with her family and friends. Evelyn was loved dearly by her caretakers.
Mrs. DiRienzo is survived by two sons Berardino (Louise) DiRienzo of Youngstown, NY and Anthony (Judy) DiRienzo of Lewiston, NY; three grandchildren Megan, Joe and Charlie and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one brother Raymond (Jossie of Monrovia, CA) Fernandez and two sisters Aracely 'Lal' (late George) Chorney and Mary (Paul of Millersville, MD) Dickinson. She is also survived by her close friends Mickey Pietrangeli and Morley Gavin.
Friends may call on Monday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on June 2nd at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 4671 Townline Road, Ransomville, NY with Rev. Joseph P. Badding officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094.
