Evelyn I. 'Effie' Yellow, 66, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on March 1, 2025, at her residence. Born in Lewiston, NY, she was the daughter of the late Eugene A. and Elva (Jacobs) Greene.
Effie was a graduate of Niagara-Wheatfield High School, and earned her degree in Criminal Justice from Buffalo State College. She was employed as a Cafeteria Worker at the Tuscarora Indian School, and most recently, at Target as a Sales Associate and Cashier for 10 years until her retirement in 2019. In 2013, she married Newton 'Manny' Yellow. A proud member of Six Nations, Effie was proud of her Cayuga heritage. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her cats. She also cherished her family, whether it was just simply hanging out or bonding over a cup of coffee. She will be remembered most for her wittiness and sarcasm, but also for her attentiveness and willingness to always lend a listening ear.
In addition to her husband of 11 years, Evelyn is survived by her sons, Austin Asay and T.J. Asay; her grandchildren, Keegan Harris and Alora Asay; her brother, George (Anita) Greene, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Eugene 'Tweety' Greene.
Funeral services and interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Lewiston, NY, will be held at a future date to be announced.
