Obituary

Philomena "Fannie" E. Ryan, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Wednesday January 7, 2009 while under the compassionate care of Niagara Hospice at the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Mary (Favorite) Ungaro.

Fannie was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and attended local schools. In 1940 she married James P. "Shorty" Ryan at Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls. Mr. Ryan predeceased her on July 16, 2007. Fannie found working with children to be rewarding. Her care for children started when she began working at a daycare in Niagara Falls, NY. She was later employed by the Niagara Falls Board of Education as an aide in the special education classroom, lunchroom, and other areas for over 25 years until retiring in her early 80's. Fannie was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for fifty years. She enjoyed being with her friends, cooking and playing cards, but most of all, Fannie was devoted to her family and especially liked spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ryan is survived by one daughter Cynthia (Carl) Virtuoso of Lewiston, NY; two grandchildren Carla (Robert) Wegrzyn of Wheatfield, NY and Ryan (Shannon) Virtuoso of Lewiston, NY; four great grandchildren Erin, Delaney and Robert James Wegrzyn and Santino Virtuoso, two brothers Robert (Grace) Ungaro of Niagara Falls, NY and Sebastian "Chickie" (Audrey) Ungaro of Grand Island, NY and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers Paul (Caroline of Grand Island, NY) Ungaro and Joseph (Susan of Niagara Falls, NY) Ungaro.
