Francis P. "Frank" Fortunato, 59, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on May 23, 2020 at N.F. Memorial Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of Mary Ruth (LaDuca) Fortunato and the late Francis John Fortunato.
Frank served as a firefighter for the City of Niagara Falls for the past 33 years. He was stationed at Firehouse 7 on 72 nd Street and was a member of Platoon 3 for many years. Most recently, he worked at Engine 9 on Bollier Avenue. Frank was the most experienced firefighter in the department. He was well known for his mechanical aptitude and was always willing to advise the younger fireman.
Frank graduated from the former LaSalle Senior High School in 1979, and later graduated from Alfred State College, where he majored in Combustion Engine Technology. In his early years, he was a cub scout and boy scout, and also enjoyed camping.
Frank loved restoring vintage automobiles and over the years he collected several models. He also enjoyed trips to the casino, where he claimed to be a winner most of the time.
In addition to his mother, Frank is survived by his sister, Laura Marie (Fred) Strano; one nephew, Steven (Jessica) Fortunato; two nieces, Sydney and Cara Strano; his great niece Rose Marie and his great-nephew Vito Nicholas; and one uncle Robert F. Sr. (late Jilda) LaDuca, as well as many cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Vito Nicholas and Rose Fortunato and Dr. Joseph P. and Margaret R. LaDuca; and two uncles, Rocco (late Louise) Fortunato and Joseph Fortunato.
Due to recent circumstances, funeral services with entombment to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery will be held privately for Frank's family. Memorial offerings may be made to the Niagara Falls Firefighters Toy Fund, P.O. Box 69, Niagara Falls, NY 14302.
