Obituary

Francis (Frank) J. Coney, Jr., 80, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on November 23, 2020, at Schoellkopf Health Center, under the care of the 1st floor staff and Niagara Hospice.

Born in Niagara Falls NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Lena (Curcione) Coney. Frank was predeceased by his wife of over 53 years, Louise (Walker) Coney in March of 2020.  They were married on September 11,1965 at Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Niagara Falls, NY

Frank graduated from NFHS in 1959. He served honorably in the Military Police of the United States Army from 1962-1966.  Frank spent all of his career in service to the community of Niagara County, especially in service to the city he loved so much, Niagara Falls. He graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA in 1978. He was a Senior Homicide Investigator for the NFPD for over 42 years. He was an integral part of the Major Crimes Task Force and Rape Task Force. His expertise and finesse with all walks of life led to him successfully solving many crimes locally and elsewhere. His passion for helping victims of violent crimes and their families made him an incredible asset to the NFPD.  Frank received many commendations and awards of distinction before he retired from the NFPD in 2009 at the age of 69, He was only retired for one year before he decided to start a new career. He formed his own S corporation and partnered with the NF City School District to employ several people who provided security detail to the city schools. He loved this position because it enabled him to do what he loved the most, be around people and help where it was needed. He retired from that position in 2019.

Frank could often be seen at his other "office" at 3024 Pine Avenue daily (also known as Tim Hortons at Pine & Hyde Park). Enjoying time with friends and family at his favorite table near the window. Tim Hortons was not only one of his favorite places to be, it was the place that saved his life. An employee, Kristi Ann will forever be remembered as the person who acted quickly enough to save his life and give us so much more precious time with him.

Frank, aside from his many professional accomplishments, was most proud of his whole family. No award or accolade could compare to the love and sense of pride he had for his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.  He was a devoted family man his whole life.  Caregiver to his wife for several years and ever present at the many social functions, graduations and sporting events for all his children and grandchildren.

Frank is survived by his three children, Joelle (fiancé Leonard Previte) M. Coney, Angela L. Coney and Frank J Coney III.  He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren whom he adored, Luisa (David) Stahlman, Zachary Krebs (US Navy), Hunter C O'Donoghue, Robert Krebs, Jackson Krebs (US Navy) and Joseph Krebs.  Frank is survived by his loving sister Sandy (Coney) Basile, her children and their families. He is also survived by many aunties, uncles and loving cousins and friends.

Frank is lastly survived and forever remembered as "Big Papa" to Chloe Marie Stahlman, his great granddaughter whom he loved and adored spending time with.

The entire family would like to extend a tremendous amount of gratitude and love to all of the 1st floor staff and administration at Schoellkopf Health Center. They made the last eight months more bearable due to the pandemic visitation restrictions and went above and beyond all the time.  Their dedication and compassion to his care was exceptional. Many thanks to all his family and many friends who have never wavered in their support for him and our family.
