Frank W. Sawma, Sr., age 76 of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on September 19, 2020 at home under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Hopewell, Virginia he was the son of Janice (Hagerman) Sawma and the late Abraham Moses Sawma.
Frank entered the United States Army in 1966, serving two tours in Vietnam. While in Army he was a 1 st Class Gunner and rifle sharpshooter. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star. He was a member of the American Legion Fredrick F. Cadille Post No. 1664.
Upon returning to Niagara Falls, he was self-employed, operating gas stations and saloons including Frank's Bar on Niagara Street. Frank enjoyed playing pool, poker, solitaire and playing dice with his friends.
In addition to his mother his is survived by his sons, Brian (Debbie) Sawma, Ronald (Rose) Sawma and Frank Sawma II. He was the grandfather of Daniella Sawma, Brian (Jamie) Sawma, Santana Sawma, Toni (Brian) Snyder, and Korey Sawma as well as great grandfather to Ian, Anthony, Korey and Athena. He is also survived by his brother and sisters Helen Rozine (Peter) Nicosia, Doris (Michael) Bailor, David Sawma, Sadie (John) Kotovich and Mary (Domenick) Pazzalia.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 24, 2020 from 4 - 6 PM at the M. J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Services will be conducted at 6 PM with Military Honors to follow. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY at the convenience of the family.
