Obituary

Frank J. Viverito, 88, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away, peacefully at home on Wednesday September 4, 2013. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Benedetto and Salvatrice (Cardinale) Viverito.

Frank was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. On July 15, 1950 he married Grace E. (Lester) Viverito and was a devoted husband of sixty years until her passing in 2010. During World War II, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and was proud of his service aboard the SS New Jersey as a Seaman First Class from June 23, 1943 until his honorable discharge on February 27, 1946. He is memorialized on the U.S. Veterans monument located at Hyde Park in Niagara Falls, NY. Frank began his career with Niagara Mohawk in Niagara Falls painting towers. He later became an assistant superintendent of maintenance at the Huntley Station until retiring after thirty five years of service. Frank was present the day the Schoellkopf Station collapsed into the Niagara Gorge and was part of the rescue team that helped locate and save his co-workers.

Frank is survived by three children Patti (Jack) Cook Cugnin of Riverview, FL; Sam Viverito of New York, NY and Michael Viverito of Riverview, FL; one sister Mary (late Salvatore) Paonessa of Niagara Falls, NY; one brother Henry (late Angie) Viverito of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers Charlie Viverito and Philip (late Teresa)Viverito and three sisters Josephine (late Tom) Viverit, Nina (late Stanley) Smeadala and Laura (late Robert) Brown.

Visitation will be on Saturday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the
M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where a funeral service will be held on Sunday September 8th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Auernhamer officiating, concluding with military honors.
