Frederick (Fidele) Muto of Lewiston, NY passed away on Sunday January 8, 2017 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital at the age of 86. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on June 20, 1930, the only child of the late Gaetano and Rosina Muto. Fred was predeceased by his first wife Shirley (nee Tweedie) on August 3, 1977.
Fred graduated from Niagara Falls High School and served his country in the United States Army. He was employed by the City of Niagara Falls as a painter for thirty years and was considered the very best in his profession. Fred earned a stellar reputation for his fine craftsmanship and painting skills. His workmanship and artistic ability could be found on several public buildings throughout the City of Niagara Falls, including City Hall. He was a member of the International Painters and Allied Trades Union.
Fred's life centered on his family and he cherished all Holiday gatherings with his wife, children and grandchildren. His kindness, sense of humor and work ethic were passed on to all that knew him. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately knew him as "Poppy". In his retirement, Fred enjoyed frequent trips to California to visit his son and family, and also trips to Italy to visit his extended family. Fred's greatest passion involved the outdoors, particularly hunting in the Southern Tier with his closest friends in life. Fred treasured these lifelong friendships from all of his hunting experiences. He was also an avid gardener, spending endless hours each summer tending to his spectacular vegetable gardens.
Fred is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his children, Rose (Rick) Kavanaugh of Niagara Falls, Frederick (Lynn) Muto of La Jolla, CA and Guy (Laurie) Muto of Lewiston, eight grandchildren, Jason Kavanaugh, Shannon (Michael) Gonzalez, Michael (Hon. Danielle) Kavanaugh, Daniel (Kylie) Muto, Christopher, Lauren, Pauline and Alexandra Muto, three great-granddaughters, Madison, Miquel and Carmyn Gonzalez. He was the brother-in-law of, Irene (late Russell) Young, Philip (Patricia) Tweedie and late Betty Bould. Fred is also survived by Marilyn's children Fay Burke (Ken), Cindy Bass (Terry), Janet Muise, and Michael Little as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday January 13th at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph's Church 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.
