Frederick Zawacki, 70 of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away suddenly on Saturday December 19, 2009. He was born January 4, 1939 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late George H. and Bernice (Kotlarz) Zawacki. He married Dolores 'Dee Dee' D. (Petito) Zawacki on March 3, 1962 in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Zawacki predeceased him on January 27, 2001.
A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, Frederick attended local schools including the former LaSalle Senior High. From 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1959, he served in the United States Navy as a fireman aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forestall. For twenty six years Fred worked for General Motors Co. Plant in Tonawanda, NY.
Mr. Zawacki was a current member of the LaSalle Baptist Church in Niagara Falls, and contributed to the support of missions around the world through the Total Christian Television Network and Freedom Village USA. Fred was also a member of the American Legion Post 1465 in Niagara Falls and AARP. He took great pleasure in spending time with his family, attending Buffalo Bills games, fishing with his grandchildren, as well as going to church, reading his Bible and sharing it with others.
Mr. Zawacki is survived by his two sons, Frederick G. (Michele) Zawacki and Nick S. Zawacki both of Niagara Falls, NY, three grandchildren, Ashley, Angelo and Joshua, one sister Irene (late Mike) Lukaszonas of North Tonawanda, NY, two brothers George (Shirley) Zawacki of Tonawanda, NY and Jerry Zawacki of Niagara Falls, NY and aunts, uncles and many nieces, nephews and cousins to which he will be greatly missed.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 23rd at 10:00 a.m.with Rev. Ronald Maines, officiating. Interment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3049 Syracuse, NY 13220, or charity of one's choice.
