Gaetano "Guy" DeMita, 84, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Wednesday March 3, 2010 at his residence. Born in Lucera, Foggia, Italy he was the son of the late Emanuele and Michelina (Mileto) DeMita.
Gaetano was educated in Italy. He served in the Italian Army from 1943 until 1945. In 1946 he immigrated to the United States, arriving at Ellis Island with his parents and twin brothers and settled in Niagara Falls where he lived until the present time. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. Guy, as he was known to his family and friends was employed at the former International Paper Company in Niagara Falls for twenty years and following that he worked at Harrison Radiator in Lockport, NY until he retired in 1986 after twenty years of service. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening, watching wrestling and old western movies. He also liked shopping for innovative products but most of all Guy's greatest pleasure came from spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. DeMita is survived by three children Carol Stankovich (Paul Swartz), Richard (Sharon) DeMita both of Niagara Falls, NY and Debra (Craig) Simpson of Lewiston, NY; grandchildren Mandy (Jordan) May, Adam (Nicole) Stankovich, Ashley (Brandon) Biro, late Amber Stankovich, Michael Simpson, Chelsea Simpson, Janine Simpson and Carly (Lenny) Lapp, nine great grandchildren, one brother Mario (Antoinette) DeMita of Niagara Falls, NY; his former wife and dear friend Gloria Zulke and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by one great-granddaughter Lillian May and one brother Anthony DeMita.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 – 7 p.m. at the M. J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY where services will be held on Monday March 8th at 10 a.m. with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. Entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
