Gennaro "Tom" Tommaso Minervino, 94, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on May 25th, 2016, at Schoellkopf Health Facility. Born in Gimigliano, Catanzaro, Italy, he was the son of the late Tommaso and Maria (Rocca) Minervino.
Tom, as he was known to family and friends, enlisted in the Italian Army during World War II in 1940 and served throughout North Africa. He was also a Prisoner of War for four years in England prior to his honorable discharge in 1946. Tom immigrated to Canada in 1949, where he married his loving wife Josephine E. (Brucato) Minervino on December 1, 1951. Together they moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1952. Gennaro began working as a Laborer at Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation and was later employed at Niagara Frontier State Parks until his retirement in 1982.
Tom was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Church and its Holy Name Society, as well as a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #247. Tom enjoyed spending time at the John Duke Sr. Center, as well as square dancing and playing Bocce. He also enjoyed cooking and tending to his garden, but especially enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, Mr. Minervino is also survived by his children, James T. (Valerie) Minervino, Maryann (Robert) Taibi and Louisa (James) Fasciano; grandchildren, Kyle (Robert McCartney) Minervino, Kurt Minervino, Thomas "TJ" Altobello, Craig (Julie) Altobello, Mary Jo Altobello, Benjamin (Kristin Pedaci) Neubauer and Jacob (Angela) Neubauer; step-grandchildren, Leonard (Jennifer) Eynon, Eric (Jennifer) Eynon, Lance Fasciano and Lisa Fasciano; eight great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his four sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 27th from 4 – 8 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, where funeral services will begin on Saturday at 9:15 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Family Parish of St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls. Interment to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY.
