Obituary

Georgianna McCoy Kowalczyk, 78, passed away peacefully in her home on February 26, 2021 surrounded by her family after a long illness. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Georgianna moved with her family to Niagara Falls, NY as a child and attended local parochial schools: St. Teresa's Grade School, St. Mary's Elementary School and graduated from Madonna-Bishop Duffy (Niagara Catholic) High School in 1960. Georgianna went on to further her education at Rosary Hill (Daemen) College and went on to earn her Master's Degree from Union College. Georgianna started her teaching career at Villa Maria Academy where she was welcomed as the first lay teacher and taught Chemistry, Physics, and Forensic Sciences for 43 years and coached cheerleading for several of those years as well. In 2006 when Villa Maria closed its doors for the last time, Georgianna's love and passion for teaching followed her back to her roots to Niagara Catholic High School, where she continued to teach for another 8 years before retiring.

Georgianna was very proud of her Italian heritage. She was a very active member of Italian Sons and Daughters of America Power City Lodge No. 158 for 61 years. Georgianna held the office of Orator for most of those years. The ISDA National Convention of 1984 elected her as the first woman Vice President of a district, following in her father's footsteps. Georgianna also served on the ISDA Fraternal Association's Board of Directors for several years. Georgianna loved to travel, attending the ISDA conventions in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Hollywood, FL, Cleveland, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and as close as Buffalo and Niagara Falls with her family and traveling to the NIAF Gala in Washington DC to live out her Italian heritage. She also went on many other trips throughout her life: Italy three times, Hawaii twice, numerous trips to Florida and Disney World, trips to the Caribbean, white water rafting getaways, and even a South American Cruise to view Haley's Comet.

Georgianna is survived by her husband of 41 years, Chester Kowalczyk; daughter Teresa (Jason Whitmer); grandchildren Jeffory and Maylianna; brother Charles (Barbara) McCoy; nieces Renè McCoy-Thompson and Christina (Terry) Caputo; brother-in-law Paul Kowalczyk; niece Sarah Kowalczyk; nephew Mike Kowalczyk; and very special cousins Dominic and Monica DeCario from Pittsburgh, PA; many other cousins; many great nieces and a great nephew.

Georgianna was predeceased by her daughter Jacqueline Marie, father Charles McCoy, mother Mary Rose McCoy, and loving sister-in-law Cindy Kowalczyk.
