Gerald "Scott" Arthur Potwin III, 58, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on October 9, 2025 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.  Born in St. Albans, Vermont, Scott was the son of Barbara (Anderson) Smith of Lake Wales, FL and the late Gerald A. Potwin II of St. Albans, VT, and stepson of Stephen Smith of Vermont.

He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School in Fairhaven, VT.  On November 8, 2003, Scott married the love of his life, Sarah M. (Killoran) Potwin, in St. Albans, VT. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and shared passions. He worked as the Manager of Sears in St. Albans for 13 years, where he was known for his dedication and warm rapport with customers and colleagues alike. In 2017, Scott and his family relocated to Niagara Falls, NY, embracing a new chapter with optimism and enthusiasm.

A lifelong outdoorsman, Scott was a proud member of the Bassmasters Lake Champlain Fishing Club and found joy in boating and in casting for largemouth bass on the lake's tranquil waters. He found peace in the serenity of the Green Mountains and Lake Champlain.

He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and was extremely optimistic about the team's future under Coach Mike Vrabel. Whether he was gardening, being finicky about mowing the lawn in immaculate rows, tinkering with tools, or cooking up something delicious, Scott found peace and purpose in the simple pleasures of life.

Scott's family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Emergency Department for their compassionate care.

In addition to his wife of 22 years, his mother and stepfather, Scott is survived by his beloved son, Eoin S. Potwin; his siblings, Tammy Swart, Danika Langford, Brittany Smith, and Levi Smith, all of Florida; his mother-in-law, Beverley (late Robert) Killoran of Cornwall, Ontario; his brother-in-law, Matthew Killoran of Calgary, Alberta, as well as several cherished nieces and nephews.
