Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" "Bum Bum" Jansen, Jr., age 55, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 20, 2020, surrounded by his beloved family in his Lockport home, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Born in Lockport, NY on September 18, 1965, he was the youngest child of the late Gerald B., Sr. and Simone (Jovinel) Jansen; and the cherished husband of Michelle (Taylor) Jansen, whom he married on June 9, 2007.

Jerry was a 1984 graduate of Lockport High School and a member of their drum corps. He began working as a Certified Emergency Medical Technician at Professional Ambulance and later at Niagara-Frontier Ambulance in Niagara Falls. He then pursued his dream in becoming a funeral director and went on to obtain his degree in Mortuary Science from SUNY Canton in 1993.

Jerry received his New York State Funeral Directors License in 1994, after serving his residency at Rutland Corwin Funeral Home in Newfane NY, where he was employed for several years. He also provided services to funeral homes throughout Niagara County and took great pride in serving his Lockport community at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home. Jerry joined the staff of M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel in 2008 and provided the utmost care and compassion to countless families until his illness forced him to retire in the Spring of 2020.

Jerry was a member of the Erie-Niagara Funeral Directors Association, New York State Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. He was also a member of the Lockport Elks Club and past president of the Newfane Lions Club.

Jerry was a charming man with a true zest for life and a heart of gold. He had the ability to light up the room with his unforgettable sense of humor, laughter and smile.

Jerry was a devoted husband and proud father. He enjoyed playing video games and fishing with his boys, as well as snuggy time with his wife. He also loved watching his son, JJ, compete in Martial Arts and swimming. Above all, there wasn't anything in life that made Jerry happier than being home with his family including his houseful of dogs, cats, and birds.

Jerry loved being on his cell phone for the social media platforms and latest scoop. He also enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, and the cooking channel, as well as playing Fantasy Football with his friends and family. He was also an excellent cook and loved hosting family gatherings during the holidays. In his younger years, he was best known as, "Wham," for his attractive George Michael like looks when he was hanging with his friends or tending bar.

In addition to the love of his life, Michelle, Jerry is also survived by his two boys, Michael Stubbs and Gerald B. "JJ" Jansen, III; his sisters, Nadine (Donald) Allen, Michelle Rott, Kim (John) Jones and Suzanne (David) McAllister; his mother-in-law, Marie Stidham; his nephew, Josh Taylor; his nieces, Mary Beth Schaffert-Roman and Jennifer Schaffert, who both provided so much help to Jerry during his illness; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ronald Sponaugle, Norman Taylor, Irene Murphy, Sue Ann Taylor and Patricia Taylor; his godson little Joe Torregrossa; and his best friends, Joseph Schiro, Jr. and Joseph Torregrossa, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jerry's family would like to thank Niagara Hospice and the V.N.A for the outstanding care given to Jerry throughout the past few months.
