It is with heavy hearts to announce the passing of Gerald 'Jerry' Vitagliano, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY who passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024 at Niagara Hospice House. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Gennaro and Jennie (Sorta) Vitagliano.
Jerry graduated from Trott Vocational High School and proudly served in the United States National Guard. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Carmel Church where he met and married his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary Ann (Maselli) Vitagliano.
Jerry was employed by the Prestolite-Tulip Corporation for over 45 years prior to retiring in June 2000. He loved spending the winter months in Daytona Beach with his wife, brother, Bob and sister-in-law, JoAnn. Jerry also looked forward to enjoying Sunday morning coffee with his brother and best friend, Fred at Fred's Collision, and his numerous visits with his 'little' sister Margaret. He also loved sitting on his porch with Woodlawn Avenue family.
Jerry was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, and enjoyed tending to his garden, especially his roses. Above all, Jerry devoted his life to his family and cherished the many memories made with them.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, Mr. Vitagliano is survived by his children, Elizabeth (Louie) Zaninovich, Karen (Steve) Fuller, Patricia (Chris) McCune and Julianne (John) Galie; his grandchildren, Michele (Kris) Proietti, Lauren Zaninovich, Christina (Andrew) Atkinson, Anthony (Erika) Fuller, Jenna McCune, Christopher McCune, Vincent Galie, Leah Galie, Grace Galie; his great-granddaughters, Brooklyn, Arya, Zoey, Avery, Adalynn; his brother, Alfred (Sue) Vitagliano; his sister, Margaret Hojnacki, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Robert (late JoAnn) Vitagliano.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 4 from 3 – 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Jerry's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 AM in Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Please assemble at church. Private interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Whoever owes Jerry V a quarter for walking on his lawn, pay up at the wake.
