Gertrude M. (Patnode) LaCounte, 93, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Monday January 2, 2012 at her residence. Born in Piercefield, NY she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lottie (LaGrave) Patnode.

Gertrude lived in Newton Falls, Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake all in New York. On May 31, 1937 she married Homer LaCounte. Mr. LaCounte predeceased her on March 13, 2001. In 2002 she came to Niagara Falls, NY and lived with her daughter until the present time. Gertrude's favorite pastimes included knitting, cooking and doing craftwork particularly cross stitch. She also loved to entertain family and friends.

Mrs. LaCounte is survived by one daughter Shirley A. (late Gordon) Tolomeo of Niagara Falls, NY; one sister Dorothy (Gary) Newton of Star Lake, NY; one brother Walter (late Betty) Patnode of Oregon. She is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one grandson Kenny Michel and two brothers Fred (late Evelyn) Patnode, Richard Patnode and three sisters Veronica (late Frank) Acquivella, Kate (Art of Newton Falls, NY) Pluff and Millie Patnode.

Mrs. LaCounte's family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Niagara Hospice and their aides for the comfort, support and care shown to Gertrude.

Visitation will be on Friday from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON FUNERAL CHAPEL, 468 19TH STREET, NIAGARA FALLS, NY followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. Interment at the convenience of the family will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Tupper Lake, NY.
