Obituary

One of the greatest men of any generation, Gimi Marcheschi, 99, entered eternal rest on June 6, 2026, in Henderson, Nevada, passing peacefully at his daughter’s home.

Born in Lucca, Italy, on January 22, 1927, he was one of four children and the only son of the late Constante and Claudina Marcheschi. He immigrated to America at the age of ten, heartbroken to leave his beloved grandfather, but he would go on to build a remarkable life defined by hard work, patriotism, and devotion to family and country.

On his 18th birthday, during World War II, he proudly joined the United States Navy and served aboard a PT boat. He was deeply honored to serve this nation, and his beloved PT boat cap—something he was rarely seen without—will accompany him on his final journey.

While serving in the Navy, he excelled as a boxer. His talent was so exceptional that he was encouraged to pursue a professional boxing career. However, his priorities lay elsewhere. Eager to return home and begin building his future, he chose a stable career with Kimberly-Clark and later retired from General Motors.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, he loved all forms of competition. He faithfully followed basketball, football, and countless other sports, whether men's or women's athletics. His greatest passion was tennis. He played the game he loved until the age of 92, demonstrating the same determination, energy, and competitive spirit that defined his entire life.

The great loves of his life were his children, Mickey and Jim, and his beloved wife, Clara, with whom he shared a remarkable 56 years. Their life together can best be described as adventurous, having traveled much of the globe; generous, hard-working and centered around their faith. He will be remembered for his strength of character, unwavering patriotism, love of sports, and the example he set for all who knew him. We would be remiss if we didn’t speak of his love for cleanliness. Among his proudest accomplishments was receiving the “Citizen’s Award” of Niagara Falls for his perfectly landscaped lawn and pristine, meticulously maintained property. He was known fondly as “Mr. Clean” to his neighbors, and it was not an unusual sight to see him out sweeping the streets, a reflection of the pride he took in his home and community.

His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, neighbors and everyone fortunate enough to have shared in his remarkable life.

He leaves behind a loving family to mourn this tremendous loss: children, Mickey (Greg) Lohf and Jim Marcheschi; his sisters, Angie (late Murray) DeFranco and Emily (late Bob) Fink; his stepdaughter, Patricia (late Don) Gregory; his grandchildren, Roni Ann (Mike) Elam and Kimmie (Barbara) Coley; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Clara; his parents, Costante and Claudina Marcheschi; his sister, Catherine DeRango; and his stepson, John Wayne Wilkerson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 27th, from 10-11 AM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304 where funeral services will begin at 11 AM. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
