Gino Armand Luzi, 88, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Thursday, May 12th, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family while under the care of Niagara Hospice at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the loving son of the late Gino Luzi and Grace (Bettis) Fiocco; and stepson of the late Anthony Fiocco.
Gino was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. During World War II, he served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge on February 3, 1949. Following his discharge, he began working at the former National Carbon Company in Niagara Falls.
In 1950, Gino married Iole (Fabi) Luzi in Italy and spent 50 beautiful years together, until her passing in 2000. Mr. Luzi owned and operated Luzi's Dairy Bar on Hyde Park Blvd. and the local Mister Softee Trucks for over 35 years until his retirement.
Gino was a current member of the LaSalle Sportsman Club and was an avid hunter and fisher well into his 80's. He also enjoyed cooking, tending to his garden and spending time with his family.
Mr. Luzi is survived by his three loving children, Albert (Diane) Luzi, Gino Luzi, Jr. and Susan Luzi (Montazzoli). He was the devoted grandfather of Albert (late Renée) Luzi, Jr., Michael (Laura) Luzi, Dana (Christopher) David, Gina (Michael) Creech, and cherished great-papa to Ryan, Aiden, Mack, Kane and Cora. He is also survived by his dear brother-in-law Joseph Fabi, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gino was predeceased by his siblings, Albert Fiocco, Anthony Fiocco and Anna Marie Cutonilli.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 15th from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, where funeral services will begin on Monday at 9:15 A.M.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lewiston, NY 14094 or to Veteran's Hospital, 3495 Bailey Avenue Buffalo, NY 14201.
