Giovanni "Mario" Beccari, 89, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Monday, August 31st, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Mario, as he was known to everyone, was born in Introdacqua, Abruzzi, Italy and spent his childhood in Sulmona, Abruzzi, Italy. During World War II he served in the Italian Army. He immigrated to the United States by way of Canada spending most of his life in Niagara Falls and Lewiston, NY. On February 23rd, 1952 he married Ann (Balassone) Beccari at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, Mario took extreme pride in his family and instilled upon them customs and traditions of his Italian heritage.
He was a skilled bricklayer, cement finisher and stone mason using his talents, along with his sons, to build a summer home in Canada and a winter home in Florida. He was a member of the Bricklayers Union Local #2 as well as a bricklayer at Great Lakes Carbon from which he retired after 22 years in 1989. He was a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society in Niagara Falls and was the recipient of the Pine Avenue Business Association's Cittadini Speciale Award (Special Citizen Award). Mario was an avid Bocce player and belonged to several leagues, winning numerous awards. His hobbies included gardening and making sausage and wine with his compares. Mario was a dedicated family man and was loved by all who knew him. He was always there to lend a hand to friends and family. All were welcomed into his home to share a meal, glass of wine or a cup of expresso.
He was a much beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty three years, five children Anthony (Tana) Beccari of Lewiston, NY, Francesca (late David) Beccari of Scottsdale, AZ, Salvatore (Maryann) Beccari of Ransomville, NY, Mary (Bill) Clark of the Town of Niagara and Julia Beccari of Lewiston, NY; nine grandchildren Anthony (Kate) Beccari, Sarina (David) Munzi, Marissa Beccari, Mario Beccari, Tara (Vincent) Peries, Anthony (Marzeena) Elia, Heidi Greenawalt, Taylor Weber, Zachary Clark and Sierra Clark; eight great grandchildren Dominic, Mina and Angelo, Ava Rose,Sophia, Lily and Luca and Catalina and Camila; four sisters Giovanna (Romonuolo) (Vincenzo) Morreale of Lewiston, NY, Josephine (Tony) Laglia of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Teresa (Santo) Felice of Unionville, Ontario, Canada and Luciana Tiberi as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters Volumnia Tiberi and Veglia DiBacco.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the
M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Friday, September 4th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, 5285 Lewiston Road, Lewiston, NY.
