Gladys M. Guercio, 92, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed at her residence on November 19, 2015. Born in Harbinger, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Thomas R. and Nina G. (Gallop) Melson.
Gladys was raised in Harbinger, N.C. and graduated from Poplar Branch High School and later attended business schools in Niagara Falls. On December 16, 1945, she married John J. Guercio and after their marriage moved to Niagara Falls, NY. John predeceased her in 1992.
Gladys began working as an assistant manager at the former Lerners Clothing Store and later became the operation's manager at the former Robert Halls Clothing Store. She then began working in the business office at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for over 25 years until her retirement in the late 1980's. Gladys was a member of the Echo Club, as well as the Girl's Club both in Niagara Falls. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed reading. She also enjoyed square dancing with her husband.
Mrs. Guercio is survived by her two children Patricia A. Guercio of Niagara Falls, NY and Sharon Kalivoda (L Pierce) of Dunwoody, GA; one grandson David (Susan) Kalivoda and one great-granddaughter Madison T. Kalivoda.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 23rd from 3 - 7:00 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, November 24th at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY.
