Obituary

Reverend Hal Faba, Ed.D., 84 of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Wednesday May 1, 2013 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Hornell, NY he was the son of the late Karl and Lucille (Larkin) Faba. He is survived by his wife M. Elaine Meranto whom he married on August 18, 1979 in Niagara Falls, NY, foster son William (Linda) Laskey, two grandchildren, Nicholas Davey and Nicole Davey, two brothers, Kenneth (Carol) Faba of Eads, TN and Robert (Irene) Faba of West Seneca, NY, one aunt, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Rev. Faba received his Bachelor of Science and was ordained from Eastern Seminary College in Philadelphia, PA in 1960. He later received his Master of Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and Doctor of Education in St. Louis, MO. Rev. Faba served as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Wilson, NY and Sanborn Baptist Church. He also served as Chaplain of the Niagara Falls Air Base, interim pastor of Brighton Community Church in Tonawanda, NY, and as a supply preacher in various churches in the Niagara area.

Rev. Faba developed Milestones Outpatient Clinic which he served as program director. He was the catalyst that led to the development of the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center and served as their first executive director. Rev. Faba also served on the Community Mental Health Board and was active with Migrant Ministry.

He and his first wife the late Jean (Archer) Faba who died in 1977 were house parents for children's homes in Oneonta, NY. Rev. Faba was a former chair member of the Niagara Falls Planning Board, active in the Niagara Area Baptist Ministers Association, involved in the 'Know Your Neighbors' faith series and a graduate of Leadership Niagara.

Rev. Faba recently directed the play 'Over the Tavern' for the Western Door Theatre as well as acted and directed for the Theatre in the Mist and Niagara Falls Little Theatre. He also sang with the Lewiston Choraleers, Holy Family Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Site Choir, and the Mary Mitchell Singers. Rev. Faba and his wife Elaine were volunteer ushers at Artpark in Lewiston and the Kavoniky Theatre in Buffalo. Rev. Faba has been recognized for his numerous contributions to the church and community.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 4th at 12 Noon at United Baptist Christian Church 4800 Creek Road Lewiston, NY with Rev. Bette Bond officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Arts and Cultural Center 1201 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls, NY 14301 or United Baptist Christian Church 4800 Creek Road Lewiston, NY 14092.
