Harold 'Hal' D. Aloian, 83, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on October 18, 2013 at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, Ohio. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Mikail and Seranoosh (Bedrosian) Aloian.
Harold graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1948 where he played football and basketball. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948 and was assigned to the 67th Anti-Aircraft Artillery in Fort Bliss, Texas until his honorable discharge 1949. After returning from military service, Hal attended Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education. He later received his Master's Degree from Niagara University, and Doctoral Degree from Sarasota University in Sarasota, Florida. On February 11, 1967, he married Barbara J. (Pasco) Aloian at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY.
Mr. Aloian was employed by the Niagara Falls School System for 31 years until his retirement in 1985. He worked as a Physical Education teacher for 18 years, as well as a counselor and an adult education teacher for 13 years. He served as an assistant football coach during the late 1950's and later coached varsity basketball in the early 1960's at the former LaSalle High School. Following his retirement, Hal worked for a short time at the Internal Revenue Service and also as a test administrator for the New York State Professional Licensing Office.
Harold was a member of the Niagara Falls Retired Teachers and a former member of the LaSalle Lions Club, Armenian-American Veterans Society and a Niagara Falls Boys Club Alumni. In 2003, Hal and his wife, Barbara, moved to Miamisburg, Ohio to be closer to their loving grandchildren. He enjoyed watching football, basketball and horseracing both in person and on T.V.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, Mr. Aloian is survived by his two children, Michael J. Aloian of Henderson, NV and Patricia (Kenneth) Karnosh of Springboro, Ohio; his grandchildren, Katherine, Caroline, Stephanie and John Karnosh all of Ohio; one sister, Katherine (late Alfred) Colucci of Niagara Falls, NY; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was also predeceased by his one brother David A. Aloian.
Mr. Aloian's family will be present to receive family and friends on Monday, October 28th at 9:00 A.M. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold's name may be made to the St. Mary's Church Capital Campaign, 115 South Main Street Franklin, OH 45605. Arrangements by M.J.
