Harold W. Ferry, 94, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Sunday October 11, 2009 at home in Bridgeport, Michigan with the loving care of his wife Margaret (Richards) Ferry by his side.
Born April 2, 1915 weighing less than two pounds in Shippenville PA, he was the son of the late William and Pearl (McLain) Ferry. Harold attended school in Pennsylvania and came to the Niagara Falls area in the early 1940's where he lived until moving to Michigan in 2000. During the 1930's he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. Harold worked as an auto mechanic at Allen's Garage in Niagara Falls and Balcom's Garage in Ransomville, NY. He was also employed at the Carborundum Company as a millwright foreman for thirty eight years until retiring in 1978 and then became an active member of the Carborundum Retirement Club. After retiring, Harold took up the game of golf and aced his first hole in one on February 14, 1987. He was also a champion shuffleboard player during his thirty two winters in Largo and Leesburg, Florida.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons Robert (Dorothy) Ferry of Florida and Niagara Falls, NY; David (Lucretia) Ferry of Sewanee, TN; seven grandchildren, Traci (Mike Hayes)Sepe, Robert (Danielle) Ferry, Michael (Kim) Ferry, Daniel(Kelly) Ferry, Irene (Matt) Clark, Jessica (Jeff) Owen and David Ferry, Jr.; four step-children Denise (Dean) Morey, Susan (Larry) Auer, Patti Richards and Jim (Denise) Richards all of Michigan. He is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren and many step grandchildren, two sisters Alice (Lionel) Sayers and Lois (Roy) Skinner both of Pennsylvania, one brother Ralph (late Iwielda) Ferry of Florida and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Irene (Troutner) Ferry who died in 1967 and Margaret (Riggi) Ferry who died in 1999 and one brother Leroy (late Hazel) Ferry.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Friday October 16th at 11 a.m. Entombment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
