Harold A. "Zimmy" Zimmerman, Jr. 73, of the Town of Niagara, NY died on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Harold and Violet (Manley) Zimmerman Sr..
Zimmy as he was known to his family and friends was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area and attended local schools. In 1952, he married Elaine L. (Wackett) Zimmerman in Niagara Falls, NY. He was employed as a Machine Operator at Carborundum Abrasives in Wheatfield, NY for thirty eight years until his retirement in 1997. While at Carborundum, Zimmy was active in their union and was a member of their "100 Club". He was an avid bowler and participated in various local bowling leagues. Zimmy also served as the former President of the Niagara Falls Chapter of the ABC (American Bowling Congress). Above all, Harold loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of fifty six years, Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his three children; Keith H. Zimmerman, Darla E. (Kenneth) McCormick both of Niagara Falls, NY; Judy L. Hertel of Florida and was predeceased by one daughter Melody (Mike of Burlington, Ontario, Canada) Salfi. Survivors also include ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one brother Ralph (Marcia) Zimmerman of Rochester, NY; one sister Charlotte (late James) Smyth of Lakeworth, FL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by three brothers; Carl (late Jean) Zimmerman, Jack (Gail of Florida) Zimmerman and William Zimmerman.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 28th at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Alan J. Valentine officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association 155 Washington Avenue, Ste. 210 Albany, NY 12210.
