Obituary

Helen Flinchum, 81, of Youngstown, NY, passed away at her residence on October 16, 2021. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Sarkis and Arshaluce "Alice" (Sherenian) Mardirosian.

Helen was a 1958 graduate of Niagara Falls High School.  On January 14, 1959, she married Oscar B. Flinchum. Helen earned her Associate's Degree from Niagara County Community College and was a Certified Working Chef.  She and her brother Vern owned and operated Pine Plaza Coffee shop for many years and later she was employed as Head Chef at Niagara County Community College until her retirement.

Helen was a longtime member of St. Sarkis Armenian Church, and was a Delegate in the Women's Guild in the 1970's.  She was also a member of the Western New York Chef's Association.  Helen loved cookbooks, and was very proud of her Armenian Heritage.  Above all, her life was centered around her family.

In addition to her husband of 62 years, Helen is survived by her children, Deana Flinchum, Stephen (Lisa) Flinchum, and Civa (Matt) Spameni; five grandchildren, Lauren Flinchum, Nicholas Flinchum, Matthew Spameni, Leah Spameni, and Peter Spameni; her brother, Leo (Martha) Mardirosian, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.   She was predeceased by her siblings, Civa (late Arthur) Schurr, Arshag 'Hawk' (late Esther) Mardirosian and Vern 'Varton' Mardirosian.

Helen's funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6 at 4 P.M. at St. Sarkis Armenian Church, 300 9th Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303.
