Henk Haan of Wheatfield, NY, died on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 peacefully at home with his wife by his side. Henk fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 65. Born and educated in the Netherlands, he was the son of the late Harm and Gertrud (Bunning) Haan.
Following graduation from university, Henk served in the Dutch Army. He moved to the United States in 1993 and on July 25, 1998 he married Patti (Marcucci) Haan. Henk was Director of Engineering at R.R. Donnelly R & D. His career began in Amsterdam in October 1970. Before joining the R & D group in the U.S., Henk operated as a liaison between the Moore R & D facility and production plants in seven different European countries. During his 43 year career, he was awarded 29 patents for his Mechanical Engineering work within the specialized field of high speed print processing and ink jet technology. Henk was an accomplished engineer respected for his expertise and ability to solve highly complex problems. He had many varied interests and hobbies. As a young man in The Netherlands he was part of the National Super Bike racing circuit. Henk had a passion for cars, Koi ponding, gardening, nature and world travel. He was a five year member of the Amsterdam graphical school exam committee and present member of the LaSalle Sportsman Club.
In addition to his wife, Henk is survived by his grandchildren Britt and Quinten Lents; sisters Margreetje (Oeds) Steensman, Annelies Haan, Marianne Haan; a brother Remco Haan all of The Netherlands. He was the cherished son-in-law of Robert and Carol Marcucci of Wheatfield, NY. He is also survived by his best friend and colleague Philip (Pamela) Hart and nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends both in the United States and The Netherlands. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a daughter Inge Haan-Lents and a sister Gini Haan.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 28 th at 10:30 a.m. at the Infant Jesus Shrine, 3452 Niagara Falls Boulevard, North Tonawanda, NY with Rev.
