Hulbert 'Hub' Ray Wagoner, Jr., 70, of Sanborn, NY died on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. Born in Paris, IL he was the son of the late Hulbert Ray, Sr. and Kathleen Ramsey (Caudill) Wagoner.
Hub graduated from high school in Clinton, IN. During the Vietnam War he began serving in the United States Air Force as a firefighter on June 10, 1960. He was first stationed at the Niagara Falls Air Base, where he met his wife, Lucille Kay Szczerbacki, who he married on June 18, 1962 in Niagara Falls, NY. Hub also served in Izmir, Turkey and completed his active duty as an Airman in Bangor, ME at Dow Air Force Base until his honorable discharge on June 7, 1968. He attended the former Trott Vocational School and completed the certified electrician program. Hulbert was employed at the former Nabisco Shredded Wheat Co. in Niagara Falls, NY, where he also served as a union official for several years, until retiring in 2002 after thirty four years of service. He was a member and served as treasurer of their credit union as well and more recently as an official at the Niagara Wheatfield Federal Credit Union.
Hub participated in the Niagara Wheatfield Athletic Association while coaching football and wrestling with his son and his sons many close friends and as a baseball coach with the Midtown Little League in Niagara Falls. He was extremely involved and supportive in his grandchildren's progression with their educational achievements and extracurricular activities. Hub enjoyed golfing, fishing, yard work especially gardening, and was a very passionate New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. He also loved the outdoors, camping and spending time in his hot tub. But most of all, Hub had an unwavering love for his beautiful wife, Lucille, who was his lifelong soul mate and rock in his life.
In addition to his wife of fifty years, Mr. Wagoner is survived by three children Lisa (John) Stante of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, Hulbert (Karrie) Wagoner III of Wheatfield, NY and Kaylynn (Robert) Kalota of Sanborn, NY; eight grandchildren Nicole Marie and Julia Stante, Kathleen, Jenna and Ryan Wagoner, Alexis, Morgan, and Tyler Kalota, one brother George (late Cathy) Wagoner of Oklahoma, one sister Carol (Daniel) Latinovich of Indiana, one sister-in-law Kathy (David) Sicoli and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister Betty Wagoner.
Visitation will be on Friday from 2 – 8 PM at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS NY where funeral services will begin on Saturday September 15th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Andrew Lauricella officiating, concluding with Military Honors.
