Ida DeSimone, 94, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on December 28, 2021 at her residence in Stony Point, NY surrounded by her family. Born in Welland, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Egidio and Nazarena (Dominelli) Ravazzolo.
Ida was raised in Canada and attended local schools. As a young woman, she was employed at a Cotton Mill. On April 16, 1955, she married the love of her life David P. DeSimone at St. Mary's Church in Welland. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Niagara Falls, NY. David predeceased her on July 3, 2004. Ida worked at Carborundum Corporation for many years. She later ran her own catering business, operating primarily out of The Century Club and later at the Volare Lodge where she was famously known for catering the annual Feast of St. Joseph featuring many customary dishes and her traditional Bow Tie desert. Ida was a longtime member of the Cristoforo Columbo Ladies Auxiliary as well as the ISDA Volare Lodge. She enjoyed cooking and baking, crafting and puzzle books. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her daughter and granddaughter.
Ida is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Michael) O'Dowd; her granddaughter, Holly O'Dowd; her sister, Julia (late Joseph) Serianni, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins and in-laws. In addition to her husband of 49 years, she was predeceased by her siblings, Mary (late Victor) Pupo, Louis (late Dorothy) Ravazzolo, Rena (late Frank) D'Amelio, Ramona (late Joseph) Scrivani, and Raymond (Madeline) Ravazzolo.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 6 from 3 – 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where funeral services will begin on Friday at 9:45 AM, followed by Ida's Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Parish at Mt. Carmel Church, 27th & Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, 14301. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
