Jack J. Radogna, 83 of Niagara Falls, NY died on Sunday December 14, 2008 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Barri, Italy, he was the son of the late Francesco and Rosa (Gallo) Radogna. On March 25, 1980, he married Theresa M. (Cannella) Radogna in Lockport, NY.
Jack immigrated to Niagara Falls, NY in 1929 with his family. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. During World War II, he served as a rifleman in the United States Army with the 143rd Infantry, 3rd Battalion from September 13, 1943 until his honorable discharge on December 16, 1946. He served in the European Theatre and fought in the Campaigns of Rome-Arno and Southern France until suffering a serious leg wound which resulted in him returning to the United States.
For seventy three years, Mr. Radogna practiced barbering, and operated the VIP Barber Shop which began on Niagara Street, relocating to Main Street and later Pine Avenue in Niagara Falls until his retirement in 2007. Jack was a long time member of St. Mary of the Cataract Church and St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 54 in Niagara Falls and National Rifle Association. In his leisure time, Jack took great pleasure in playing the keyboards. He was also a sports enthusiast, particularly enjoying baseball, football and boxing.
In addition to his loving wife of twenty eight years, he is survived by his five children; Rose Marie (Kenneth) Bullard, Julia Anthony both of Phoenix, AZ, Mary Helen (William) Taylor of O'Fallon, IL, Eva Marie (David) Pennhollow of Dubois, PA and Joseph (Maria) DiDomizio Sr. of Oxford, FL, six grandchildren; April and Tami Taylor, Joseph DiDomizio Jr., Tony Winters, David and Adam Pennhollow, two great-grandchildren; Justin and Alexa, his cousin Teresa (Thomas) Garbutt of Niagara Falls, NY and godchild Nicole Stewart of Lewiston, NY. Jack was also the brother-in-law of Patrina (late John) Bartko of Lewiston, NY and is also survived by his guardian angel Michelle (Don) Hardy of Niagara Falls, NY and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Thursday December 18th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Cataract Church 259 4th Street Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Michael Burzynski PhD. Officiating. Entombment will be held with Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Lewiston, NY.
