James Fernandez, 84 of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on June 9, 2016 Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Santiago and Rosario (Inguanzo) Fernandez.
James was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and attended local schools. He served as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on July 3, 1954. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. Jim was employed as a machinist at Hooker Chemical Company until his retirement. James was a talented trumpet player as a young boy and also played in the Army band while serving. He was also an accomplished athlete and participated in local softball and baseball leagues. James greatest passion in life was golfing at Hyde Park Golf Course.
Mr. Fernandez is survived by his three children, Linda J. Munn of Niagara Falls, NY, Jacalyn A. Fernandez and Lisa M. (Robert) Stroehlein both of Amherst, NY, his grandchildren, Brent James Gile, Sean Patrick Stroehlein and was predeceased by a grandson Nicholas Fernandez. He was also survived by his step-grandchildren Robbie and Ryan Stroehlein, his former wife Marlene Fernandez, one sister Clara (late Raymond) Robinson of Youngstown, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by one brother Jose Fernandez.
Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. concluding with Military Honors.
