James M. Vicchio, 92, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on December 25, 2024 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late James M. and Mary (Rotella) Vicchio.
James was a graduate of St. Joseph School in Niagara Falls, NY. He served proudly in the United States Navy as an Airplane Mechanic on Aircraft Carrier from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1952. On January 21, 1956, he married Rose R. (Romano) Vicchio at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. James was employed as a Machinist and Supervisor for Consolidated Packing Corporation in Niagara Falls for 30 years until his retirement. After his retirement, he was employed at the Niagara Falls Board of Education as a Security Guard in various schools.
James was an avid golfer, and was very proud of his hole in one. He was an extensive world traveler, and enjoyed traveling with his wife. James enjoyed dancing with his wife, and they were members of various ballroom, jazz and line dancing groups locally. He also was a member of the Tonawanda Senior Citizens' Center. An extremely outgoing and active man, James would walk 6 miles daily, and was always very well dressed and meticulous about his appearance.
James will always be remembered for his joking and wonderful sense of humor. He was always smiling. Above all, James will be remembered as a devoted husband and loving father who always put his loved one's first. He was a very kind person, a true gentleman, who was highly respected within the community.
James leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness and will be missed by his family and friends. His spirt will forever inspire us.
In addition to his wife of 68 years, James is survived by his daughter, Sharon Vicchio-Routhier (Gaston Routhier, Jr.), his niece, Nancy (David) Campbell, as well as several cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Rose J. (late Guido) Nicora, Anna (late Joseph) Militello, and Jean Vicchio, his nephew, Joseph (Anita) Militello as well as his sister-in-law, Lucy (late Orlando 'Earl') Bruno.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 28 from 10 – 1 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where funeral services with Military Honors will begin at 1 PM. Entombment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, www.niagarahospice.org. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
