James Vlahopoulos, 81, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Wednesday October 3, 2012 at Gates Vascular Institute in Buffalo, NY. Born in Niata Lakonias, Greece, he was the son of the late Gabriel and Helen (Sarantakos) Vlahopoulos.

James was educated in Greece and served in their Armed Forces. In 1956 he came to the United States and settled in Niagara Falls, NY where he currently resided. On November 17, 1957 he married Viola "Voula" (Churakos) Vlahopoulos in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Mrs. Vlahopoulos predeceased him on December 23, 2009. James and his wife owned and operated the former Arterial Steak House and prior to that worked at the former Alps Restaurant, both in Niagara Falls, NY. James was an avid pool player and won the title of Niagara Falls City Pool Champion in 1985. In his leisure time he also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing euchre and knock rummy.

Mr. Vlahopoulos is survived by three sons Gabriel Vlahopoulos of Niagara Falls, NY; Theodore 'Ted' Vlahopoulos of the Town of Lockport, NY and Dino Vlahopoulos of Niagara Falls, NY and was predeceased by one daughter Helen Vlahopoulos. He is also survived by two grandchildren Dino James and Lisa Ann, two sisters Nikki (Kosta) Agelakos of Mississauga, Ontario; Betty (late Demitros) Papanastasiou of Greece; one brother Christopher Vlahopoulos of Greece and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one brother Thomas (Maria of Toronto, Ontario, Canada) Vlahopoulos.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Trisagion prayers will be offered at 7PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Monday October 8th at 10:30 AM at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 1073 Saunders Settlement Road, Niagara Falls, NY with the Very Rev. Paul Solberg officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
