Jane (LaVerdi) Gariano, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Monday January 7, 2013 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Mt. Morris, NY she was the daughter of the late Nunzio and Jennie (Faso) LaVerdi.

Jane graduated from Mt. Morris High School, and moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1943. On October 3, 1953, she married Frank S. Gariano in Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Gariano predeceased her on November 16, 1993. Jane worked for 15 years at Moore Business Supply, and then as a nurse's aide at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, for over 25 years. She later worked for 10 years in the kitchen at St. Mary's Manor in Niagara Falls, retiring at the age of 77 and a half. Jane enjoyed playing bingo and listening to her son, Thomas, perform with his band. Most importantly, Jane centered her life on family, and will be remembered for baking and sharing her homemade cookies with her family and friends. A very giving and loving person, not only to her family, but to all children she met; and will be remembered for the many single dollars she distributed, earning her the nickname, "dollar bill Jane".

Mrs. Gariano is survived by two sons, Joseph S. (Carol) Gariano of Lewiston, NY and Thomas F. (Hon. Kathleen Wojtaszek-Gariano) Gariano of Niagara Falls, NY; five grandchildren Robert (Nicole) Bilson, Nicholas, Joseph, Francesca, and David Gariano; three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Blair, and Beckett Bilson; two brothers, Russell (Penny) LoVerdi of Lewiston, NY and Anthony LoVerdi of PA; a sister-in-law Catherine LaBarber of Niagara Falls, NY; her uncle Dominic Faso, her aunt Josie (Victor) Rippo, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren. Jane was predeceased by two sisters, Antoinette (late Peter) Barstys, Carrie (late Al) Jones, and five brothers Joseph LoVerdi, Sam (late Margaret ) LoVerdi, Nunzio (late Gloria) LoVerdi, Dominic (late Ruth) LoVerde, and Donald (Shirley of Niagara Falls, NY) LaVerdi. She was also the sister-in-law of the late Joseph, Lawrence, and Angelo Gariano, and Julia Bellavia.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Thursday January 10th at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Rd. Niagara Falls, NY. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls.
