Jean Marra of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully at 99 on July 27, 2026, at Our Lady of Peace Health Care Facility in Lewiston, NY. A lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Emilia (Sdao) Messina.
Jean was a 1945 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. She married the love of her life, Rocco J. Marra on May 6, 1950, in St. Joseph Church. Rocco predeceased her on September 20, 2023, after 73 years of marriage. Jean worked in fashion retail and was employed at Bellevue Fashions and Fashion Bug for over 40 years. During World War II, Jean served as a Civil Defense Restricted Radio Telephone Operator. She found joy with cooking and baking and shared it with everyone she met. Jean was a former parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo and Prince of Peace Church, both in Niagara Falls.
Jean is survived by her children, Rocco (Mary) Marra and Joseph (Marguerite) Marra; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Marra and Megan Marra; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandson, Michael Marra, and her siblings, Joseph Messina, Mary (late Martin ‘Bud’) Shimmel and Dora (late John) Friona.
The family extends special thank yous to Jean's homecare CNA’s, Jackie, Shakyna, Tylin, Taliyah, and Ziera as well as to the entire staff at Our Lady of Peace for their care, kindness and support.
Jean’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 4, at 12 Noon at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School, PO Box 300, Chamberlain, SD 57325‑9919.
