Jerome A. Sertick, 64, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Wednesday January 28, 2009 at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Stephanie (Rogus) Sertick of Niagara Falls, NY and the late Stephen Sertick.
Jerry was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. He attended local schools and graduated from the former LaSalle Senior High School. He later attended Rutgers University in New Jersey and Niagara University in Lewiston, NY where he earned a Masters Degree in Education. In 1995 he married Maria A. (Mariglio) Sertick in Niagara Falls. For thirty three years, Jerry was employed as a physical education teacher by the Niagara Falls Board of Education, and coached track and field and football for LaSalle Senior High School. An avid outdoorsman, Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the 3J's Hunting Club. He also enjoyed golfing and most recently photography. Jerry was known for his great sense of humor and ability of telling jokes. Most of all, he loved being with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and mother, Jerry is survived by two daughters; Jill (Robin) Vanginhoven of Pittsford, NY and Jocelyn (Michael) Paolozzi of Webster, NY; two step-children Jessica (Mark) Levy and Samuel Trapasso both of Vermont, two grandsons David and Jackson, two sisters Carole (David) Larkin of Virginia and Martha (Joseph) Carr of Fairport, NY as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the son-in-law of Frances (late Angelo) Mariglio of Niagara Falls, NY,
and brother-in-law of; Francine Mariglio of Miami, FL; Angela and Patrick Ponzi, Anita and Richard Cavese both of Lewiston, NY and Donna Mariglio of Niagara Falls, NY. He was predeceased by his sister Julianne Sertick.
Friends may call on Sunday from 3 – 7 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday February 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raphael's Church, College and Macklem Avenues, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Ivan Skenderovic officiating.
