Obituary

Joe D. Curtis, 82, of the Town of Niagara, formerly of Lockport, NY died on Monday March 12, 2012 surrounded by his family at his residence. Born in Logan, WV, he was the son of the late John Anderson and Barbara Mae (Atkins) Curtis. He was predeceased by his wife Cora Mae (White) Curtis in 1998.

Joe attended school in West Virginia and during World War II he served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal with the 51st Constabulary 4th Armored Division from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1948. While living in West Virginia, Joe worked as a coalminer. In 1959 he came to the Niagara Falls area where he lived until the present time. He retired from General Abrasives in Niagara Falls, NY in 1993, as a plant supervisor after more than thirty years of service. Joe also worked in construction of the Power Project in Lewiston, NY. Joe was an exempt member of the Niagara Active Hose Co. in the Town of Niagara. He especially enjoyed farming, hunting and was an avid outdoorsman. Joe was loved by everyone who knew him.

Joe is survived by three sons Thomas J. (Wanda) Curtis of Gasport, NY; Fred Curtis of Niagara Falls, NY; Gregory Curtis of North Dakota; and one daughter Billie A. Curtis of the Town of Niagara. He was predeceased by infant son, David D. Joe is also survived by two grandchildren Robert Curtis and Melissa (Michael) Morgan, two great-grandchildren Skylar and Kaeden and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters and four brothers Betty (late Eugene) Stowers, Kathleen (late Fred) Johnson, Louise (late Lou) Reece, Charles (late Elsie) Curtis, James (late Nola) Curtis, Robert (late Jean) Curtis, Thomas Curtis and Libby Keppler.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Friday March 16th at 11 a.m.with Rev.Sam Hangartner officiating. Interment with Military Honors in Acacia Park and Resthaven Cemetery in North Tonawanda, NY. Flowers are gratefully declined.
